The Lasting Legacy of a City Defined by Art

By Jack Kitson

In the heart of Firenze sits a store where artists and appreciators of the Renaissance alike can gather, converse and become inspired to create and express their ideas and uniqueness.

When one arrives at the store window of Zecchi and gazes past the glass to find materials and decoration so carefully displayed, it becomes quite clear that this is where dreamers and painters begin their masterpieces. Zecchi’s roots even go back to the 14th century, as the building itself was once a part of the original university in Florence.

Upon entering the store, the seriousness and dedication of the shop workers is immediately noticed, for the organization and genuine passion for painting is felt throughout the shop. From those who paint simply as a hobby to those whose lives and careers revolve around art, Zecchi provides the customer service and abundant materials that allow each and every customer to leave with a smile on their face.

Although Zecchi did not come into existence until the 1950’s, the shop itself is strictly committed to providing all shoppers with the exact same paints, brushes and other materials that were used to create a many of the masterpieces throughout Firenze both during and prior to the Renaissance age. The stores influence is not solely known and spread throughout continental Europe, but is in fact globally known for their expertise and overall authenticity. Zecchi, oddly, is rustic yet modern. Cluttered and organized.

Like the makeup of a true artist, the store has varying personalities that form together to make it both memorable and alluring. Although the majority of the space is taken up by supplies, non-painters can still find enjoyment while in the store, for the memorabilia, posters, signs and attention to detail can simply not be appreciated. Anyone or anything that oozes quality can never be sighted.

Zecchi is not only remembered and appreciated for its quality, but also for its rich devotion to those who came before them and created a world in which so many are moved and fascinated by the creations of artists across Firenze and the globe.
